My girl was close 4 lbs and was also born with a hernia. I has her spayed at 7 mos and the hernia repaired.
She did very well. For me there was no question of not have her spayed.
Be absolutely sure they do pre-surgery blood work, no mater what the vet says...insist if necessary. At that point you have taken all precautions for a sucessful outcome. There's always a risk just like with humans, but to me the benefit outweighs the alternative.
