That's what I was thinking. I have had wifi for about 6 yrs. now. My desktop did have to be hooked up to the modem because it is not wireless. Our laptops, wii, ipods and my blu-ray, even my printer are all wireless so now my modem is not hooked up to anything except the dsl. My modem has the router on it. You could probably attach a wireless card to your desktop if you wanted it to be wireless also.
