I have wireless and nothing is connected to my computers. It all runs through our phone line. We only have laptops. Are you sure it has to be connected to your computer?
Mine is password protected. The company set it up for me. All I know on that is anytime someone tries to use my wireless it will ask for the password. So, if yours asked for the password I think you must have it set up right\.
