If your landlord doesn't allow dogs, don't assume you will convince him to allow a yorkie just because it is small. Yorkies are great watch dogs. Unfortunately this means that they like to bark at anybody or anything that is unfamiliar to them and in an apartment this could mean constant barking.

If you get past the landlord issue than a yorkie may be great for you. My yorkie gets along great with my cat. Cat is twice the size of the dog and the dog constantly beats up the cat (in a nice way, of course). Try not to get a really tiny yorkie. They are very fragile and could be prone to illness.

Would this be a pet just for you or a family pet? The reason I ask is if you are in highschool you are gone a good chunk of each day and are faced with the possibility of leaving for college or whatever in the next year or two or three...A college student does not have time for a yorkie.
