Your first sentence asks to start a discussion. A few sentences later, you're telling the forum to only post if they support your opinion. Please allow me to clarify that ALL members are welcome to post on this thread.

As part of the discussion, let me add my perspective. Do I support 'shipping'? Well, it depends. What kind of 'shipping'?

I was able to pick up, in person, my first 2 yorkies. My 3rd kiddo, Pfeiffer, is from a wonderful member here (TammyJM), who lives in another state. Pfeiffer was lovingly flown, IN the cabin with another wonderful member here (LuvMySissy), who brought her to me at the airport - my first vision of LuvMySissy and Pfeiffer was them coming thru the security area and Pfeiffer was all tucked inside LMS's jacket - all cuddled in. So, that's my experience of 'shipping'. And it was nothing but positive .

I believe Michael Vick's horribly abused dogs were flown from his house of torture, to the Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. Was that wrong? Imo, no...BFAS was the place they needed to be; otherwise, they'd have likely been put down.

Rescue dogs are *sometimes* flown via cargo. Is that wrong? In some cases, it can be the right decision.

So, what do I think of shipping dogs via cargo? I'm not a fan of cargo, unless there is a VERY good reason/need to do it.

If you happen to be lucky enough to fly your kiddos around whenever you like, then I commend your luck and your ability to maintain a singular view.

Good breeders do not ship their pups willy-nilly. By definition, they'd do everything possible to do the opposite.
Thanks for the moderation. I wonder how she feels about people whom have used shipping but don't "support it" wonder if having done so qualifies for support? Anyways I'm throwing my two cents in here. I've done it-got lucky there were no issues with the shipping, but I don't think I'd do it again or recommend it. I went to a local breeder (for a miniature schnauzer)-she had since retired I trusted her, her advice and recommendations, she advised me to a list of breeders she used before. I spoke to one in Washington whom I met later when she visited California. She didn't plan any litter for what or when I was looking to add a puppy so she recommended another kennel whom had also bee recommended to me by the first breeder-I found a pup from them about 6 months later after having went through their adoption process-the pup was flown to me as she came from 7 states over. Princess is a dream come true I recommend her kennel to anyone-she was bred for health and temperament just as was assured to me in referral and from her kennel. I had been looking for a "Teapot" Parti Yorkie for about 3 years and happened to find one at the same time. I adopted him when 2 years old as I knew he would be fully grown and had been assured to his health and temperament, he had supposedly just gotten too large to breed in the breeders program so she needed to re-home him-although I hadn't met this breeder or been personally recommended to use her, but her version of the situation seemed reasonable and he was exactly what I had been looking for for awhile-BIG MISTAKE-Elvis came in minimal health, with flea pooh on him, worms, impacted anal glads, bad teeth etc a month after being with me he had a cluster seizure episode, his papers and vet records never arrived with him as they were guaranteed to-so I had one great experience and one well you live and learn and tell everyone about it to save them from the mistake.
Here's my comment on a similar post-discussing what I did in shipping and my experience, I think despite not wanting to do it again and not actually having a "bad" shipping experience I did things in a responsible way, I was shocked though to learn that what I thought would be an industry standard is actually the "5 star" or "above and beyond service standard" that was what shocked me. "I actually paid twice the normal pet shipping to have my dogs put on the shortest possible flights that only had one layover and had to pay an airport contracting kennel to take my dogs out, potty them, walk them, feed them, clean their kennels and then stick them back on the plane after making sure they were safe and comfortable (it was a couple hundred more for the kennel service)...that was worth it since I couldn't find anyone to fly with them, my dogs actually ended up on the same flight from Texas to California and were taken care of by the kennel attendant together so they met before I met them. I'm not sure I'd get another dog without actually getting them myself, but I'm so pleased and highly recommend one of the kennels, even though it is a few thousand miles form me."
