I think it all depends on how serious a case he has. My neighbor's Labs both got kennel cough from the dog park and they were sick for weeks. It's similar to a human with bronchitis.
Make sure you have your vet check him if he's not dramatically better by Monday. Kennel cough can go into pneumonia.
Do you have a vaporizer? That will help loosen the congestion.
