He is about 6-7 years old. I've had him for a month now. We take 10-15min walks around each potty break. I'm going to go to the petstore soon and see what I can find for him.

Ha, you're dead on about that. It's a never ending battle with those two. The vet looked him over, they said he looks overall healthy. But yes, I'll give it another week and see what she thinks.

Jackson is super active but he likes his sleep too. He usually sleeps from 10pm-morning (9am-ish) and then he goes back to sleep until noon or 1 o'clock. But then he's ready to go. I always be sure that if he doesn't get his daily walk, he gets activity or he would drive me nuts. We have to dog park once or twice a week, walks atleast 5 days a week, tricks/obedience/training at least once per day, and he needs a chance to just RUN a few times a week, etc. But like I said he will practically sleep from 10pm-noon the next day (with a morning potty break of course). |
When I adopted him, the woman at the rescue told me his previous family didn't keep him very active. He wore diapers. The wife was/is also in a wheelchair. So yeah, i dont think he got much outside interaction. That being said, he does go potty outside with no problem (occasional accidents in the house). As far as wanting to be active he doesn't.
A couple weeks ago was pretty nice outside. I opened the patio and let him outside. It's a nice, small space to play with grass. He stood there looking at me like, "what do you want me to do"

I've taken him to the dog park, again he gave me the same "look" Mind you it was just us at the park..so maybe that has something to do with it.
Right now, oddly the only time he seems to have any fun is now that the snow is down. He runs around in it. That's about as much running as I see from Tommy.
How should I go about corrently learning tricks and things like that? I guess I'll go check the Obedience Thread. Oh, and the Vet told me that after Tommy has some time getting more comfortable with me, then we should look into obedience classes that are available. How soon should I wait to say we're ready?
I've included more pics of what Tommy does best
