I'm so glad to hear that Bdog is responding to your training. This tells me that she is not in as bad a place (mentally) as I thought she could be. I think DF just got to a point with Bdog where it all started to go bad, got no satisfaction with a trainer, and took preventative measures to limit the destruction Bdog was causing. I do think this is a frequent occurrence with owners and Yorkies, many that we never hear about, because it is not a healthy situation.
I think too a major issue with this thread is that people are not reading the whole thing, and do not realize that the hitting and biting happened over 6 months ago, and that you have been presented with alternative methods of handling her, and that you agree that your previous reactions to her behaviors were inappropriate and will not be repeated. I trust you on this, especially now that you have evidence that the new methods you have tried with her are producing positive results.
It's the same way when people view a video, the difference in opinions of what is actually going on is surprisingly different from person to person, just as people reading the written word comprehend differently.
I do think there is hope for Bdog in her current situation. You both are no different than any first time Yorkie owners. You do not know the level of bonding that can occur between a Yorkie and it's humans. I don't expect you to 'know' it or believe it at this point in time, but I believe you will experience it as you continue to learn about Bdog and work with her.
I need to say that my intentions are to get Bdog to a place in her current home where she can be allowed free run of the entire home, whether or not her owners are at home or at work, where Bdog will accept you enough to allow you in bed with her and DF, and that any aggression, destruction, and inappropriate pottying will become issues of the past. I don't know if this can be accomplished through interaction with the members of this forum, or if a trainer will be a necessary part of the equation. I keep thinking it may happen quicker with a trainer, but I have concerns too that the wrong trainer could cause more problems.
I do again commend you for continuing to come back to this thread, and my apologies to you and DF, I do not agree with how many have chosen to treat you, although I do understand why it happens. My advice would be to ask a Moderator to close this thread, and start another to get more positive responses, and not have to deal with the negative, as I feel you've heard enough of that (I know I have). |
