You may want to contact your insurance company about your insulin and test strips, sometimes they prefer a certain type of insulin or meter and you'll have a lower copay. Once after changing insurance companies, the co pay for my daughters meds shot up to 120.00 out of pocket per month, so I called the insurance company and they said if I switched to a different insulin and meter, my co pays would be 30.00 a month! I talked to the doctor and she wrote up new prescriptions (and saved me 90.00 a month). Maybe your insurance company works the same way? No harm in checking into it? Good luck! |
I plan to do it tomorrow....it is considered a specialty drug...so the co-pay is $30, but the Dr. at the hospital wrote the script for an 18 day supply...so I got charged 2 co-pays for a month of meds...the pharmacist called the ins co and they said this was correct...I wonder if my Dr. writes it for a full month will I get charged different...I am also on the insulin pen, so the needles bring it to near $100. I know the vials & needles would be cheaper, but my vision is so blurry at times I would be scared I would over/under dose myself.
I did ask my Dr. would it be more economical to switch to something else and he said there is no "generic" insulin so it would all run the same...so as you can see I will have to research it myself.
Thanks for the advice! This truly is a new way of living and a different experience for me..
