I took Chewie with me on a trip to Oregon when he was 5 mo. (not sure how many hours from home, but it was two full days of driving one way). He did great! He stayed in his kennel in the car and pretty much slept the whole time. It was his bed for the week. I had him sleeping in the new kennel in a different room for a week before we left to acclimate him to it. He's outside-trained, so pottying at rest areas wasn't a problem at all.
