We walk 2 miles on most weekdays - weather permitting. We walk 4 miles on weekends.
Yorkies are terriers and have lots of energy. A tired yorkie is a good yorkie.
I would say your friend's yorkie has joint problems for reasons other than walking. That's the first time in my life I've ever heard that one. IMO - keep up the exercise. It is good for them.
