I find this true of most veterans that have fought in various wars. My mentor's husband was a tail gunner, in the Pacific during WWII (just celebrated his 92nd BD). In the last 3 years he's just begun to speak about his experiences. My husband began gathering up all his memorabilia and putting in to an albums, medals in shadow boxes and picture frames for him.....I guess that is when it hit him what a phenominal part in history he played.
