Good luck with your new baby. Training will come in due time and you're right who cares about their ears. I always take the underdog or undercat. We got our Bassets really cheap because they were 4 months old and they weighed 25 lbs each. I'm so glad we did because I don't know what would have happened if they every got separated because they are so close. I think we got them both for $700 and although it is really hard raising such big dogs I never regretted taking both of them.
They had them in a little crib and they could barely move. When they took them out they could barely stand up. They were deathly afraid of the outdoors we had to carry them to the car. Imagine keeping two big dogs like that in such a small space 24/7 without even letting them stretch their legs. Now Chloe still has some soft tissue problems from being cramped up so long.
