i put a band on ahia's hair as soon as there was enough to get it to stick up there. even before she had too much to keep out of her eyes because she looks like a boy. everyone was thinking ahia was the boy and buckeye was the girl. so she needed something to put in a pink bow. now it is a must to have it up there. and by the way i found this page to help in making a top know. it has excellent pics showing how it is done. http://www.yorkies4me.com/topknots.ht
