I agree with you Stowelinda, not everybody, who is not familiar with the Dog World, has heard of or is aware of puppy mills. I have had Yorkie's for almost 20 years and for the first few years, I had not heard of puppy mills. My first Yorkie, Merlin, was from a pet store, whose owner had her own Yorkie a 2.5lb little girl- in the store all the time. She seemed healthy and happy. The owner swore that she got her dogs from legitimate breeders, and I, not knowing what I did not know, got Merlin from this woman. Merlin lived for nearly 17 years and was the love of my life. He had congenital problems like collapsed trachea, and luxating patella. I loved him from the moment I saw him-but I didn't get that he was probably from a puppy mill until much later, when I started hearing about such things. So it is VERY possible that people could not even conceive of such evil, until they find out somewhere down the road, the hard way. When I found out, I was in such shock, that I cried for days, and was sick for days. If you don't know, when you find out, and you see the pictures, it can BLOW YOU AWAY. All we can do is get the word out whenever we can. That is the only way to stop it! |
