I ask because she's a mix and might have true curls like a poodle compared to a yorkie who is soft coated. Maybe that's why you're having a harder time keeping the matts at bay. For comparison, I have a soft coated yorkie and really I don't have a problem with it matting up. His hair has some kinks to it but it doesn't curl. It's about an inch long right now on his body. And yes, I do dress him up all the time. I can add pics of his hair if you want to compare.
