I do NOT use Pepto for several reason, one of which has nothing to do with the med itself. I cannot STAND the smell. BUT, there are other reasons and I do not like the salycilates in it. The bismuth is heavy metal and although not in the elemental form, I still prefer not using it. AND, Pepto also turns stool black when used for a few days..and in humans, their tongues get black, but that might not apply to other animals.
I prefer kaopectate but just because of its simple formula. IF, a puppy/dog needs a quicker diarrhea fix, I use Lomotil or loperamide....I am not recommending that others follow my and my vet's regimen, but wanted topoint out there are several different treatments for the same condition. And, basically, it depends on the preferences of the attending vet.. |
