When I get home from work, my niece has picked up Tallulah from Yorkie camp, played with her a bit, and left her safely in her crate. She hates to be alone for even a few seconds, so I will hear her wailing like a banshee as I approach the house. When I open the back door, the alarm gives a beep - she has already learned that the beep means someone is coming or going, and goes silent. The whole time I'm approaching her crate and opening it, she is absolutely silent and sitting at attention. Once I finally put my hands on her, she turns into the most wiggly little thing you ever saw and I get Yorkie kisses wherever she can reach. It's reached the point that I sit on the floor in front of her crate before I open it so she can't get hurt jumping on me or wiggling out of my hands.
She doesn't mind at all being in the crate if someone's in the room with her -- it's just being left alone that makes her unhappy and we're trying to work on that.
I'm looking forward to the day that I can give her more freedom in the house and she can meet me at the back door when I come home! |
