the way mardlin was posting was that everyone is required to micrcochip now..which is not correct...i wanted to point that out. when i asked questions, my post was picked apart instead of "showing me or directing" the information or clearing up the confusion, thus i start researching.

when i called i stated my name and was i required to microchip or id my akc dogs and litters?..the answer was "NO" i did dig deeper on the large amount of dogs and the id process after that

you should id your dog..example...collar and tag which is acceptable

the third time i called raleigh i asked for more details on the id requirement..it was stated 20 plus dogs are required to have excellent id process in place..you can also see on the akc "book" that it clearly states 20 plus dogs..its not for someone with 5 dogs who breeds occasionally..yes they can come and inspect your home n pets..but if they have collars with id tags and you have the records of who's whos...your fine in that department

the following info is from AKC

VII. REGULATIONS FOR RECORD KEEPING
AND IDENTIFICATION OF DOGS

person covered by these regulations must follow
such practices as, consistent with the number of
dogs involved, will preclude any possibility of error in
identification of any individual dog or doubt as to the
parentage of any particular dog or litter.
Thus, if more than one dog is shipped to some new
owner or if a number of similar dogs are kept in a kennel
or pet shop, a system must be used
, such as
marking, tagging, tattooing or microchipping each
dog, which will preclude any possible error in identities,
and a record of the identifying information must
be kept. Bitches in season must be so segregated from
males that there can be no doubt as to the identity of the
sire of any litter. Puppies from different litters must be
so segregated, marked or identified that there can be no
doubt as to the parents or age of a particular puppy, and
the identifying information must be recorded.
NOTE: If microchips are used as the primary
means of identification, a scanner must be present at
all times if there are more than 20 dogs over six
months of age on the premises. All dogs sold at auctions
must be identified by microchip.
