These statements would be enough to tell me to stay away from her. Respectable breeders do not cross-breed "to make a morkie." But the sentence that really made me cringe with revulsion was her response to your question about micro-chipping, saying if your dog gets lost, she doesn't want it coming back to her. What kind of caring breeder would ever say anything like that? No caring kind!! Respectable breeders include a requirement in their contracts that if rehoming is ever required, the dog comes back to them directly. They WANT the dog returned so that they can insure whatever home it winds up in, is one screened, approved and well suited for yorkie ownership. No one who truly cares about her dogs would EVER make a statement like that. It tells me she doesn't care about the dogs at all, only the money they can bring.

As far as microchipping being required:
This is from the AKC site: "The AKC Board approved a requirement, effective Jan. 1, 1997, that imported dogs be permanently identified by AKC-approved methods prior to registration. It also approved a policy regarding permanent identification for OFA and CERF-tested dogs. The AKC will continue to publish all OFA and CERF numbers in the AKC Gazette until Jan. 1, 1997. After that time, only the OFA and CERF numbers of dogs positively and permanently identified at the time of testing will be published. Effective July 1, 1996, OFA and CERF transfers to the AKC registration database will occur only for dogs with positive and permanent identification at the time of testing.

Although everyone is not required legally to microchip, many top breeders/show breeders will have their dogs OFA tested and CERF-tested. In those cases, they will have to have the dogs permanently identified by AKC-approved methods before they are registered. The site further defines AKC-approved permanent identification as (microchip or tattoo). This may be part of the difference of opinion in this thread. Because of special testing and circumstances some breeders do come under a mandatory microchip or tattoo ruling. The AKC certainly recommends permanent identification on ALL dogs. They are making it increasingly more economical and easier on the dogs themselves. This site contains some valuable info: AKC CAR - Companion Animal Recovery I think it would be a good idea to get ahead of the curve as I forsee mandatory permanent identification for ALL AKC registered dogs in the future. Just a hunch, but I think a pretty good bet.
