My heart goes out to you. My Yorkie had GME at age 1yr and 10 months. He somehow survived with immunosuppressive doses of steroids(we saw a neurologist after the diagnosis was made.) Remarkably, he never had a relapse until this Oct. 10 1/2 years later. The symptoms were the exact same, so I had the vet put him on steroids until I could get to a neurologist 3 days later. They did an MRI (negative) and a spinal tap which showed a monocytosis and lymphocytosis. He was 12 1/2 years old now, so even the neurologist didn't believe it was GME. Long story short, the neurologist stopped the steroids, and told us we could pick him up. He was so ataxic he could not even stand and then had a seizure. We had to put him down. I am still not over it, but I feel like I got 10 1/2 years that I never should have. He was so athletic and happy he couldn't live like that.
My advice, see a neurologist ASAP. Some dogs do survive. I will keep you in my prayers. |
