Sometimes it's just easier to respond to these kind of people with humor. I often say something like "you wish someone would treat you as well as I treat my dogs" or "I'm spending my kid's inheritence" or "Why shouldn't I spend my money on my family - they love me more than my teenagers do". Said in a fun happy way most people will back right off.
Does anyone else have any "snappy" comebacks for this kind of situation?
