I don't think your little one will have to be on prednisone that long, since your vets caught this so fast.
It is scary about prednisone, but it saved my Piccolo's life, when nothing else would work. So, it was a calculated risk and really my only choice. The Vet Dermatologist worked very carefully with her and monitored while she was on such high doses. It has been 9 months since she has been on anything except Vitamin e, so even though this is an auto-immune disease, it is in remission right now.
How is your little one doing now? Is your pup lethargic at all? How is the secondary infection doing?
