Our situation is a little more unique; we live on a boat. We've trained Cody to go outside and he also uses the Potty Patch in the back of our boat. When cruising, there are times when there isn't a place on shore to take him. I started out by putting him on the potty patch and telling him to "go pee-pee" (which is the same thing I say to him outside). It took a lot of work but he goes on it during the day now (even though we live in a marina right now and I could take him out I want to reinforce that he uses both) and I take him on shore in the morning and evening. I think it is a little confusing to him but that's why I give him opportunities at both each day.
