As Misty said there is much more to consider when purchasing a pup than the registery. However, AKC does kennel inspection that does consist of obtaining DNA to insure that the dogs you are breeding are the parents of the pups you are registering. You do have a bit more leverage with AKC.
I for one would only purchase an AKC or Canadian Kennel Club dog.
