I have planned to wait til 6 months and at least 3 pounds with my Annie. She is very smll so I may wind up waiting longer than the 6 months. But I have been reading that there are new reports about wanting to wait longer, like after the first heat to spay.
I found one that mentioned the potential to nick bladder muscles and leading to incontinence later on if they spy too early. Is there any other reason? This sounds more a matter of vet skill than a real reason. Another said the female parts are easier to distinguish after a heat but then went on to say that during the heat they are even easier to see, but no vet prefers to spay when they are in heat due to the risk.
If I don't hear more of the reasoning for waiting, I will probably stick to my original plan. |
