most pet store iguana setups
any wear between twelve and fifteen 4 inch baby iguanas in a ten gallon tank they are fed lettuce (terrible for them because it like candy it has no nutritional benefits at all) some times they even give them crickets (iguanas are strict vegetarians) the turn on a hot light during store hours and turn it off at night so no heat to digest there food.normally there is one stick in the tank and it dose not reach high enough for them to get warm so again they cannot digest the food they eat it sits in there bellies and rots.
they are taken from the wild as hatchlings(like almost all reptiles you see in the pet stores) and are thrown 20-40 in a cloth sack where they are then thrown in a shipping box with maybe 2 other sacks and they then get to a big sorting building wear they are sorted any iguana who has been injured during transport is "euthanized"
this includes the defense of dropping there tails a drop tail will grow back but it takes time time in witch these reptiles are growing.
they can get to be 6 foot long and if not fed properly they can break bones just by standing or laying on them
when they send you home with one they tell you if you keep it in a ten gallon it wont grow this is not true they do grow they just get sick because they can move
okay i'm done sorry for the rant |
Gosh! I never knew about ^^^ this either! That's horrible. They really do need special care.
