Before you rule out Petplan because of this experience, keep in mind that a large part of the problem was that there was no initial vet exam to rule out preexisting conditions. She probably would have had a similar problem with any other insurer.

It's SO important to take any newly adopted dog to your vet within a day or two of the adoption. And bring from the breeder/shelter as complete a record of the pet's history as you can, including the manufacturers of all shots, worm treatments, etc. My vet told me that he needs to know the manufacturer of the worm treatment especially.

From past experience with student insurance plans, I totally get why insurance companies insist on a clean health history - you wouldn't believe how many turn down coverage then try to bluster their way into a policy when they get sick.
