We had the same problem. Puppies are like young children, they do not understand until you correct them. Children would not know to not touch a hot stove but an adult would.

We have noticed with our babies that they go around trying to chew EVERYTHING! They chew a toy and they get praised. They do not understand the difference between a toy and a shoe. So they try the shoe, get told no. You must catch them in the act. When you do tell them no and grab a toy and give it to them and praise them. Doing it over and over. When they get a toy on their own, praise them again. We did this all the time until they finally stopped chewing things that were not theirs. It worked really fast. Until they stop teething they will have their occasional "oops" but it will end. Its something you just have to work at all the time.

For now it sounds like for their own safety you should create them while you not home. Good luck!
