I have always used an eye dropper for hand feeding. With the dropper, it's easy to control the flow so the baby doesn't aspirate. I've never added the egg yolks but do use the goat's milk formula and feed 1cc per ounce of body weight every 2 hours.

I had never heard of one being born with its eyes open so googled it. It does happen once in a while and the eyes need to be kept moist and will sometimes close like they should. Here's the info I found.

"The puppy should be able to close its eyes and usually that is what I have seen. You might want the vet to check for eye lid abnormalities to see if that is the problem if the eyes do not close.
I found that using saline or mild boric acid eyedrops such as contact lense wearers use moistened the eye enough to allow it to close.
You may want your vet to stitch the eyes shut for the next 10 days to protect the developing tissue.
If you do end up using eye ointments then make sure to keep the tip of the applicator sterile so no infection happens."
