The vet used Home Again. The first year fee was included with the bill. I just renewed the registration and it was $16.95. You can do it online. You can always go online to the website and update any information.
Home Again also has you upload a photo (optional) but if Sophie was ever to go missing they can take care of sending notifications out.

this is their website:

Pet Microchip for Dogs and Cats | HomeAgain Pet ID & Recovery Service

Lil Bit was microchipped years ago and at that time the vet used Avid. There was a onetime fee. I think it is $19.95 now and then it only costs to update information.
But I registered Lil Bit's microchip with Home Again as well as it is a better service, so I pay the registration fee for her. Well worth it for peace of mind.

I had Bailey chipped years ago as well and hers is Avid I didn't know you could transfer from Avid to Home again, Bella's is Home Again I will have to look into that and have it done. Thanks for the info

OP...I have both my babies chipped, they were wide awake. Bailey didn't make a sound. Bella let out one lil yelp and that was it...They didn't have any reactions to it at all. I feel so much better knowing they are chipped cause dogs are getting stolen right out of your home these days
and I know that chip will be my only way of getting my pets back and like someone else said a chip is the only way to prove a stolen dog is yours.

just look at it this way...its for the best interest of your baby and your piece of mine
