both of mine are chipped both were chipped when fully awake and aware. Sadie's went well she didn't make a peep, Bentley's i wasn't in the room for and they said he did cry a bit. neither have any problems whatsoever with them. both are home again. the orginal membership to their online database services is included in the chipping, yearly renewal is about 16.00 somthing. even if you do not renew membership you will always have their chip number which will always be directed to their call center and have your name and address and phone number listed. the membership pays for their services which send a fax/email to all the local vets should they be lost and alerts everyone around and also keeps an online profile database for your pets.

i'd say chipping is the best and easiest way to get a pet home. always keep tags on when they are outside and could get loose as well just in case someone doesn't know about chips they can quickly call your numbers. but the chip is the only way to prove a stolen dog belongs to you...so CHIP!
