At 3 lbs, you should continue to free feed. Tiny ones cant go for too long without eating. Both my Rio (19 months) and Bullet (8 mos) are 3 lbs and I free feed. The only time free feeding gets tricky is if you're still potty training your pup because it makes it harder to time when they have to "go." As for the barking, consider yourself lucky! LOL!
