Rachel, I hope you get some answers. I was trying to point out that the cause may not be allergy or skin related. It could be from injury or pain (as with my dog only she never got it infected, it was certainly painful). Pain will also cause a dog to lick an isolated an area or nip at it enough to cause infection.
