I don't know enough about all the circumstances to agree or disagree. I'm just saying at this juncture one should not simply jump into irreversible things but with that comes a great amount of responsibility -- in this case, whether it's a temporary financial upset or not, one should take a great deal of caution with the handling of an unspayed female around a male. It "may" have been a case she was thinking she "might" breed later down the road, then the financial problem arose and thus the situation she found herself in and due to lack of supervision (and possibly breeding knowledge) the situation happened...so regardless of her circumstances or past plans...the problem has arose and we should simply try to help not agree or disagree without the entire back story...but as stated before I don't think it's necessary for someone to post the whole (possibly long & boring) story just so those won't bash...just post the question and those with the answers should respond to just that and assume there is a credible back story in there. Just so many assumptions from the responders and seems silly to go places that may have nothing to do with the issue --- if people are going to "assume" why not assume the positive rather than the negative???
