My Roger is a lighter steel blue (not silver) and Bonnie is more of a medium tint. The pups they've had have coats that mostly are a bit darker than Roger's. Two exceptions. They had one boy in their first litter with a darker coat and now I have one girl from their last litter that has a very dark coat. It doesn't seem to be 'black' but is really dark (she's in my avatar).
So, my experience has been that you can get great color using a lighter dog. I'd like to see it happen more often, and that's (hopefully) something I can attain in the future. I don't see that you have to be breeding only the ideal color to be breeding for standard, as I think has been implied here. And, even if you do, there's no guarantee that every pup will be that ideal color. Wouldn't it be nice if that were so..... |
