I was assuming your breeder showed dogs, that does seem like a high price for someone who doesn't show. There should be champions on both sides back many generations for that price. Someone at Yorkietalk told me about the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American, and I'm so glad they did, I found an excellent breeder through them. You can see a link to breeder referrals in my signature; I suggest you talk to a few. I'm concerned someone would change what they were breeding because they weren't successful, you should be thoroughly in love with the breed you have chosen, and feel like you have something to offer the breed. It should never be seen as a way to earn money.
