Would it be possible for you to purchase a puppy from one of the breeders with the condition that they keep it for you until winter break? Maybe they would allow you to visit on weekend until you could bring your pup home. That way you could bond a little as well.
If you explain the situation one of them might be willing to hold onto it for a few extra weeks. If they were just born they probably won't be ready till sometime in November anyway. That would also make the pup a few weeks older when it does finally have to be alone longer.
