Oh Victoria,
You definitely need to get a good pin brush. As I am not familiar with the Christensen brushes (they are obviously very good as a lot of YT members swear by them), I would contact Jenny of Topline Pets - she is
mimimomo on YT and ask her about the Madan brushes. I bought mine from her - super fast shipping. Her website is
toplinepet.com
As far as a detangler. I always spray Beamer with Miracle Coat Leave in Conditioner before I brush or comb him (you shouldn't brush a dry coat) or I will use the Crown Royale Magic Touch No.1 Grooming spray instead. Crown Royale also have a detangler, but the grooming spray works good.
Beamer doesn't normally get mats, but when he has got mats I have used the Cowboy Magic on them - but it is "heavy", and plain cornstarch works well on mats.
Since I now have a groomer coming to the house once a week I find I only need to comb him twice a day, I rarely have to use the pin brush (and the Madan grooming comb is great - I have the 7inch grooming comb, the small mustache comb and I use the tail comb on his topknot)
It is an outlay for the right tools, but they are a good investment as they will last a lifetime. Sue, the groomer likes to use the brushes and combs I have rather than her own!
I do finish his grooming with a brush through with a Kent bristle brush. (100 strokes - I know it sounds crazy, but his coat does shine after)
