Sorry to hear that you little one has to go thru this. My boy had to have this last year. I would say that the first 2 weeks were the most stressful. I felt awful and kept second guessing myself. I pretty much held him for his recovery period - 6 weeks.

Our surgeon told us no physical activity other than to potty and the largest area he wanted him to be in was 3 x 3. Hubby had to carry him out to potty at first as I was afraid that I would hurt him somehow.
After the first 2 weeks Hot Rod seemed to take a turn for better and he looked better. The only problem was that he wanted to move around a bit. I did let him try and walk a few steps here and there. He was crated at night, which he had not been since he was 16 weeks old-he was 1 1/2 at the time of his surgery. After a while, hubby would let him walk a little on his potty breaks and actually let him walk around the yard. I told him to be care as the uneveness of the ground could do harm.
It got a bit harder as the weeks went by because Hot Rod was wanting to move around and we have a 2nd yorkie that wanted missed her brother.
All in all, I am glad that we did the surgery but it was hard. I was so stressed before the surgery and called several times the night of surgery.

Once we were able to pick him up, I felt sooooo much better and so did Hot Rod. He pretty much lept out of the tech's arms to me.
The doctor spoke with us prior to bringing him out and that was good because once I had him in my arms I didn't hear a word. lol I was glad that hubby was there because did the listen after that. lol
Have you seen an orthopedic vet? I would highly suggest speaking with a board certified ortho vet that is well versed in small dogs. What grade is your little one's lp? Is he/she in pain? Hot Rod's was at a grade 3. He was in some pain as his tendon was on the side of his leg and he wasn't wanting to walk. He would sit down when I tried to take him out. His little leg was bowed outwards.
Feel free to private message me. I certainly understand your anxiety. Best of luck.
