A breeder that I just got my pups from uses the wood type but uses that laminate covered wood that can wipe clean and even has rails on them. Her hubby makes them for her. They are nice! With no hubby anymore I am useless with that, but sure can drill holes in a tote.
I pay around 8 bucks for the tote and the material to cover the crate was 2 bucks a yard and I think I used 2 yards and a little thread. So about 12 bucks invested....and the material is cute
I shared the same experience, cleaning was a problem for me with the wood... i am a bleach freak .
