I did use the wooden type like is pictured but when blood or whatever got on them you cannot get it off. I felt like they were not as clean. I use kennelsol on mine and a bleach solution 10:1 every day to keep away germs.
A breeder that I just got my pups from uses the wood type but uses that laminate covered wood that can wipe clean and even has rails on them. Her hubby makes them for her. They are nice! With no hubby anymore I am useless with that, but sure can drill holes in a tote.
I pay around 8 bucks for the tote and the material to cover the crate was 2 bucks a yard and I think I used 2 yards and a little thread. So about 12 bucks invested....and the material is cute
