I was the same way with Joey, and it's easier on boys. I pray everything goes well, and she recovers quickly. Sometimes we have to make hard choices to protect our loved ones, but the decision you are making is protecting her future. Females can get pregnant their entire lives and I've read of so many who had an older dog who got pregnant for the first time at age 5, which is dangerous for the first pregnancy.
