First of all, most people have said to put my pup in oil which I did but I
watched a video yesterday that said that one of the top handlers does not
believe in using oil at all, not even with wrapping. I was wondering what others thoughts on this are?
Secondly, I have hm in oil but I have always wondered if I should alternate
being in oil with being with out any product? In other words, should I just
wash him out every 4 days and then re oil? Or should I put him in oil for 4 days
and then wash and leave without oil for 4 days? |
It depends on many things. As I've said before, some people do not wrap to grow show coats. We all do things different. Some oils don't require a bath each four days, some will kill a coat if you don't.
One thing for sure; It would be difficult to guess at coat care by reading it online. EVERYONE needs mentoring. You cannot do this breed alone. You can get tips online, but if you're getting serious about the ring then you will have to get a hands on person to help you.
You can destroy a coat with oil if not using it correctly. Same with wraps. Buy the breeder that wants to help you succeed. It's not to discourage you. We want you in the ring. We still make adjustments to our own coat care routines. This is one of the smallest things a mentor will help you with. There is so much to learn, you owe it to your dog and the breed to do it right.
It's very common not to use oil with wraps. Some people don't use any wraps, only oil. You should get a mentor to help you with coat care. It's the start of hours that turn into years of coat care.
