I don't know of any pet safe insecticides, but there are natural remedies to keep snails from you plants:

Copper strips-wrapped around the flower pots or used as a 2 inch high barrier in beds deters snails.

Diatamacious earth and lava rocks are too rough for the snails to crawl over, so they keep the snails at bay, too.

With all of them, make sure there is no vegetation hanging over the edges that can make a bridge from the unprotected areas to the plants you are trying to protect.
