How old is your new adoptee? I hope they get along great but it may take a little time~ depends on the temprament of both.
It took Ringo a good month to settle down with Lucy; but he was 4 years old and used to being the dominant mad of the house.
She had such a sweet and docile personality (mostly) that it has worked out. She just pesters him until he plays with her!
