If there are grants/non-prof subsidies, fabulous....but if not, I'd really want to know what is covered - and I'd want to make sure everything was covered that I'd expected (esp. in terms of anesthesia and monitoring etc).
From what I understand, many of the low cost clinics have volunteer office help, etc....There is one about 2 hours from me that is only open on the days that they have surgeries scheduled thus keeping the costs down. The vet and vet techs are what you would normally see in a regular vet office. There is another clinic about 4 hours from me that has volunteers working the front but they rotate different vets from the area. That saves them a ton of money. It is possible to keep the costs down if you know how to do it! Also, it is common for people to feel like the high costs associated with spaying/neutering is simply too high. That is another reason for the low cost clinics. At the clinics you are not able to leave your pet overnight. That is also a way of lowering cost. I could get on my soap box but for now I'll keep my feet planted on the ground! LOL!
