I gave my pup the Lepto shot because my property backs up to some woods. I have walked up on racoons, opposums, fox, bobcats and armadillos. I know they urinate and defecate in my back yard. Well, they did. I built a fence, but the opposums can still get in. I felt getting the shot was in the best interest of my pup. Others need to realize that the disease is not just spread by rodents. My puppy always has his nose to the ground and the disease is also spread through mucosal surfaces.

Leptospira organisms have been found in cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, rodents, and wild animals. Infected through contact with water, food, or soil containing urine from these infected animals. This may happen by swallowing contaminated food or water or through skin contact, especially with mucosal surfaces, such as the eyes or nose, or with broken skin.
