That is odd that the vet paperwork is not adding up, but then again I had a litter that was born on the first (01) and the vet office staff had put in tenth (10). Did they send you photos of the pup in a stance (standing) position.
And there is a difference from whether they show or actually have their own champions and not using photos of the parents on their site without stating that these are the parents and not their champions. I have looked at some sites where they were using photos of the parents in show positions and never stated that these dogs were are owned by others.

Do they themself have champions of their own?

Typical show prospects pups most often are sold at around 6 months to 1year from people that have their own champions and have a strict contract that you need to finish this pup before breeding with a co-ownership. They will check out your references. And the pup should have had its health testings/screenings.
Now a days show prospects are harder to come by by top breeder exhibitors and they must know the buyer very well.
