I am glad you are going to try to find his owners. As others have mentioned, we have no idea just how long he's been gone or what circumstances brought him to his current condition, lost while on vaccation, or stolen. You never know.
Please keep us updated on this little guy. It breaks my heart that he has lost his family and I hope you are able to reunite him with a family that is desperately looking for him.
